London, March 21 (IANS) A British woman who was kidnapped from a resort island on the Kenyan coast six months ago has been released, The Telegraph reported Wednesday.

Judith Tebbutt, 56, was kidnapped by Somali gunmen in September last year from a beach resort north of the coastal city of Lamu.

The gunmen killed her husband, David Tebbutt, during the attack. The couple had only arrived the previous day and were the resort’s only guests.

Witnesses told The Daily Telegraph that Tebbutt boarded a Kenyan-registered plane at Adado airport in central Somalia and is en route to Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

Pirates reportedly handed her over to three regional administration officials after a ransom was delivered by airdrop Tuesday, although some reported that no ransom was paid.
