Pennsylvania’s ‘Jihad Jane’ to ‘plead guilty’ to four terror charges
January 30th, 2011 - 1:47 pm ICT by ANIHarrisburg, Jan 30 (ANI): A Pennsylvania woman, nicknamed ‘Jihad Jane,’ would reportedly change her earlier plea of ‘not guilty’ to four terror conspiracy charges.
The New York Post quoted Colleen LaRose’s attorney as saying that she would change her plea to ‘guilty’ of conspiring to support terrorists and kill a person in a foreign country.
Forty-seven-year-old LaRose was arrested in 2009 for trying to recruit Islamic fighters and for plotting to assassinate a Swedish artist, Lars Vilks, who apparently made fun of Prophet Muhammad.
The federal indictment claims that LaRose, who is from suburban Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, was obsessed with online preachings of Islamic radicals, and started raising funds for them and also helped them recruit people in the disguise of “Jihad Jane” and “Fatima Rose.”
According to prosecutors, she had managed to recruit a lady named Jamie Paulin-Ramirez from Leadville, Colorado. Later on, she moved to Ireland with her young son and married a terror suspect from Algeria.
LaRose is also accused of making false statements to government officials and for stealing a passport that she intended to give to an Islamic fighter.
Prosecutors say that LaRose responded to instructions to kill cartoonist Vilks, who had drawn the Prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog, by saying, “I will make this my goal till I achieve it or die trying.”
She faces a potential life sentence if convicted on a charge she agreed to kill Vilks.
She is in custody and had pleaded not guilty to terror-related charges in March 2010. (ANI)
