January 12th, 2011 - 4:32 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jan.12 (ANI): The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed a fine of one million rupees each on two private TV channels — SAMAA and Waqt TV — for projecting terrorists and airing blood and gore on their respective news channels.
According to a PEMRA release, both channels had violated information and broadcasting laws while covering the assassination of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
The channels were also observed to have repeatedly aired an interview of the assassin, the Daily Times reports.
Under PEMRA law, both these channels were provided reasonable opportunity to show cause and explain their position. (ANI)
