‘Peer pressure forcing Brit teenage girls to have sex’
December 28th, 2009 - 1:57 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Dec 28 (ANI): Teenage girls in Britain feel pressurised to get involved in sex as they believe their peers are already sleeping together, a new survey has revealed.
According to the survey by teen magazine Sugar, nearly a third of the respondents said they lied to classmates about their sex lives while the same number say friends make them feel they should “go further” with boys.
The study showed that almost 87 per cent of girls between 12 and 18 think their friends or classmates have had sex, reports the Daily Express.
However, only 12 per cent of 985 respondents said they’d gone all the way.
Sugar writer Kate Quail said the “big sex myths” are confusing teenagers, “pressuring them into going further than they feel comfortable with”,
“It’s a vicious circle. Girls often feel they have to lie to keep up with their friends,” Quail added.
