PCB backtracks from statement on Yousuf’s removal
January 25th, 2010 - 3:21 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Jan. 25 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in damage control mode following criticism over PCB chief Ijaj Butt’s mid-tour announcement that Mohammad Yousuf could be sacked as captain after the Australian tour.
The PCB) now says the comments have been taken out of context.
“The news is totally out of context and the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt has been quoted wrongly in this regard,” the Daily Times quoted PCB’s media manager Nadeem Sarwar, as saying.
Earlier, Butt’s statement was criticised by former cricketers who said the timing of announcement was wrong, as the team was still in the middle of a one-day series.
However, Yousuf has been subdued and diplomatic in his reaction to the reports.
“I don’t mind it. The board appointed me captain and they can change me, but I am enjoying this challenge and I think I have done a satisfactory job,” Yousuf said.
“It is always an honour to lead your country and I am enjoying this opportunity to be captain. There is no pressure on me and neither has it affected my batting form. It is all fate. If they want to remove me I have no issues I will continue to play and enjoy my cricket,” he added. (ANI)
