ohioJan 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Columbus-area man has taken up the trouble to build a Lego replica of Ohio State’s horseshoe-shaped football stadium. The construction is complete with an archway as well as a scoreboard. Mr Paul Janssen made use of around a million Lego pieces for building the model which measures 2.4m by 1.8m. The 42-year-old Ohio State researcher told a leading news source that it was a challenge for him to create the rounded model out of the mostly rectangular blocks. He said that the entire construction took him about 1,000 hours and more than two years to complete. He bought or traded for pieces for making the restroom pipes out of a Lego truck.

The archways lining the stadium, the dome of the rotunda and the Script Ohio that loops across the scoreboard video screen is a perfect imitation of the actual horse-shoe shaped stadium. With almost-exact detail, Paul Janssen had made all the curves of Ohio Stadium in the same manner as the original. He reported that the building was “not square at all” and therefore it was a big challenge. He also said that it was much more satisfying if someone is able to accomplish something that is difficult. Paul Janssen shortly finished his masterpiece, having spent some 1,000 hours behind it in his Dublin basement. The scale for making the replica was 1/100, and there was no cutting, or gluing or painting involved in the making.

In order to plan the project, Paul Janssen studied the measurements of the actual stadium and the satellite images. He often took photos of the press box and other details during football games. The number of pieces, which Paul Janssen used in making the replica, would round up to something around $50,000 to $75,000. Paul Janssen hopes to display his work and to use it for fundraising for his research on heart failure and muscular dystrophy.
