“Kalima”, the Arabic translation of the original works in Sanskrit, was done by Abdul Wahab Al Maqaleh, a professor of translation at the Faculty of Languages at Sanaa University, Yemen. The project was conducted by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
The book consists of 195 proverbs divided into four chapters - Yoga and its aims, Yoga and its practice, Powers and Liberation. It is regarded as a major document on the practice of yoga meditation, which is said to have many health benefits.
The original works in Sanskrit were first translated into English. It was titled “How to Know God: Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali” by Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood.
Christopher Isherwood had previously collaborated with Prabhavananda in the translation of “Bhagavad-Gita: The Song of God” and “Shankara’s Crest Jewel of Discrimination”.
