Pandit Jasraj enthrals Dhaka audience

Dhaka, March 20 (IANS) Music enthusiasts here were thrilled as Pandit Jasraj, one of India’s best known exponents of Hindustani classical music, played to a packed house here.

The musical soiree was conducted Friday by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) — attached to the Indian High Commission.

Marina Ahmad Alam, a Bangladeshi student of Pandit Jasraj for 25 years, accompanied the maestro, along with Tripti Mukherjee, during the two-hour musical journey.

Ram Kumar Mishra was on the tabla and Mukund Patkar on the harmonium, the Daily Star reported Sunday.

Bangladesh Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith was the chief guest.

Rajeet Mitter, the Indian high commissioner, Suraiya Begum, secretary-in-charge of the ministry of cultural affairs, and Kamal Lohani, director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, were special guests.
