Palestinian negotiators had secretly agreed partial Israel annexation
January 24th, 2011 - 2:01 pm ICT by ANIJerusalem, Jan 24 (ANI): Palestinian negotiators had secretly agreed to accept Israel’s annexation, leaked confidential documents have revealed.
According to Al-Jazeera TV, the nearly 1,600 confidential documents detail how Israeli leaders had privately asked for Arab citizens to be transferred to a new Palestinian state, and also indicate the intimate level of co-operation between Israeli security forces and the Palestinian Authority.
Discussions also centred on the crucial role played by British intelligence in drawing up a secret plan to crush the Hamas in the Palestinian territories, and also how Palestinian Authority (PA) leaders were privately tipped off about Israel’s 2008-9 war in Gaza Strip.
Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) leaders also privately suggested swapping a part of the East Jerusalem Arab neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah for land elsewhere. They reportedly proposed a joint committee to take over the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount holy sites in Jerusalem’s Old City.
The offers were reportedly made in 2008-2009, in the wake of George Bush’s Annapolis conference, and were privately hailed by the chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, as giving Israel “the biggest Yerushalayim (the Hebrew name for Jerusalem) in history” in order to resolve the world’s most intractable conflict. Israeli leaders, backed by Washington, said the offer was inadequate. (ANI)
