Taliban Islamabad, May 18 (Xinhua) Twenty-seven Taliban militants were killed Monday in separate operations carried out by the security forces in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP), officials said.
Military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said three militant commanders were among the 27 killed. Three security personnel were also killed and 17 others injured in the operations, Abbas told reporters in a press conference here.

Pakistani Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira also attended the conference.

He urged the media not to call the displaced people as refugees.

Authorities in NWFP said more than 1.6 million people have been displaced in the ongoing conflict in the province.

Provincial Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain said the Buner and Dir districts in NWFP have been almost cleared of the militants.

He said the displaced people in the region will soon hear good news, as the affected people will soon be able to return to their homes.

He said the military operation in the province will continue till the militants are eliminated from the remaining areas.
