Islamabad, Sep 29 (IANS) Over 30 leaders of various parties, including Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, will gather here Thursday to discuss the security situation following the US accusation that Pakistani intelligence agency ISI was supporting the Haqqani network, a media report said.
The All Parties Conference, which will be attended by the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), will evolve a strategy to counter threats at all fronts, reported the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, Sep 22 accused the Pakistani government of supporting the Al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network. Mullen called the Haqqani network a “veritable arm” of Pakistan’s ISI, a charge denied by Islamabad.
Gilani will host the meet.
The political leadership would be briefed by senior military officials about the situation and the options available.
The meeting would take into account the toll Pakistan has taken in human and financial terms over the years for being a frontline state against terror and “the fact that it was still being criticised for not doing enough”, APP said.
