Pakistan reiterates Jammu and Kashmir ‘disputed territory’

Islamabad, Jan 7 (IANS) Maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir remains disputed territory, Pakistan has rejected a recent Indian assertion that the entire state was its integral part.

“The Government of Pakistan rejects the assertion… that the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India,” APP quoted a foreign office spokesperson as saying Friday.

“The correct position, as established by the UN in accordance with its relevant resolutions, is that the State of Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, the final status of which is yet to be determined,” the spokesperson said.

The Pakistan foreign office spokesperson was responding to a question related to a Jan 4 statement of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding depiction of a map of India on the US State Department’s website.

On Wednesday, India had objected to the “gross inaccuracies” depicted with regard to Jammu and Kashmir in a map on the US State Department website.

Later, the US State Department posted an amended map of India on its website and acknowledged that it had earlier made a “goof up”.
