Pakistan not to attend Bonn conference
November 29th, 2011 - 5:38 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Nov 29 (IANS) Pakistan has decided not to attend the Bonn conference on Afghanistan scheduled in December following a top-level meeting held Tuesday, a media report said.
The decision was made at a federal cabinet meeting chaired by the Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, reported Xinhua citing Geo News.
The conference scheduled to be held in Germany’s Bonn city Dec 5 will discuss Afghanistan-related issues.
The move comes after Saturday’s NATO cross-border air strikes in Pakistan’s northwest tribal area of Mohmand Agency along the Afghan border, which killed 25 Pakistani soldiers.
Following the incident, the Pakistani government decided to close the NATO supply lines in Pakistan and ordered the US to vacate a key airbase in the country’s southwest Balochistan province within 15 days.
The government also said that it would reserve the rights to take further actions against the NATO attack that has violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and deeply hurt the feelings of the nation.
