Pakistan calls Iran a great friend

Islamabad, Nov 4 (IANS) Describing Iran as a great friend, Pakistan Thursday said it values its friendship with Tehran and hoped to further boost bilateral ties.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said Iran was a great friend and Pakistan highly valued its relations with it, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
Firdous was talking to an Iranian parliamentary delegation that called on her. Outgoing Iranian ambassador Mashallah Shakeri also attended the meeting.
Pakistan has been reaching out to friendly countries ever since its ties deteriorated with the US following May 2 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the subsequent accusation by Washington that ISI was helping the Haqqani Network.
Awan said exchange of parliamentary delegations between the two countries would further enhance bilateral ties.
She stressed the need to explore various possibilities of cooperation in the field of media and said the exchange of media delegations would help both the countries learn from each other’s best practices.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had visited Iran in September.
The governments of Pakistan and Iran have declared Multan and Rasht sister cities.
