Taliban Washington, Aug 2(ANI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, has said that his country does not share Taliban’s ideology, and it is working to contain the threat posed by the group.

Haqqani brushed aside WikiLeaks reports which provide proof of a link between Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency and the Taliban, and said: “The Pakistani intelligence services are working effectively to contain all terrorists, including Taliban from Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

He also pointed out that the classified US military documents posted online are “not reflective of what is happening today”.

“Over the last two years Pakistan and the US have entered into a special collaborative relationship,” Haqqani said.

“It’s not important right now from our perspective to dwell on the history. But let’s be very clear that Pakistan does not share or appreciate the Taliban’s vision for Afghanistan or for Pakistan,” he added.

WikiLeaks, the whistle-blower organization has posted over 90000 classified documents about the Afghan war on its website, which suggests that between 2004 and 2009, elements of the ISI had armed, trained and financed the Taliban.

The documents allege that former ISI chief Lt. Gen. Hamid Gul (ret.), who ran the organization in the late 1980s, frequented Pakistani madrassas where suicide bombers are trained for Afghanistan, and attended planning meetings involving the Afghan Taliban seeking to attack both Afghan officials and foreign troops inside the country.
