Pak origin Canadian citizen detained after bomb threat on Toronto-Karachi plane
September 25th, 2010 - 5:11 pm ICT by ANIStockholm (Sweden), Sep 25(ANI): A Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin has been reportedly detained after a Pakistan-bound plane, carrying 273 passengers, made an emergency landing at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport because of a bomb threat on board.
According to reports, Stockholm police has detained the man on suspicion of planning to blow up the Boeing 777 Pakistan International Airlines plane flying from Toronto to Karachi.
Passengers have been evacuated from the plane, and police are questioning the suspect.
Stockholm police spokesman Janne Hedlund said that no explosives had been found on the man, but his baggage was being searched, Sky News reports.
“The man is of Pakistani descent. We have taken the suspect. We are going to interview him,” Hedlund added.
The unscheduled landing came after a woman called Canadian police, and said that there was a man on board who may be carrying explosives with him.
Canadian police then contacted the pilot, who requested permission to land at Sweden’s Arlanda airport. (ANI)
