London, May 4(ANI): British Prime Minister David Cameron has said the Pakistan government has “lots of questions” to answer over how Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was allowed to live near Islamabad and a military academy.
Cameron said it was important that people knew what sort of help bin Laden was getting which enabled him to live in secrecy and seemingly safe for years.
“Of course there will be lots of questions about what sort of support system did bin Laden have in Pakistan - and we need those questions answered - but as we stand today we simply don’t know the answers,” The Telegraph quoted Cameron, as saying.
However, the Prime Minister also emphasized that it was important to stand alongside Pakistan’s government in order to tackle terrorism.
“There are lots of questions that need to be asked. And we should be tough in asking those questions. But we should deal with what we do know. And we do know that the Pakistan political leadership is fighting terrorism, we do know that country has suffered,” Cameron said.
“We should work with those forces in Pakistan that want us to combat terrorism and extremism and make democracy take hold in that country. That is in our national interest.”
“We could go down the other route of just having a flaming great row with Pakistan over this. I think that would achieve nothing,” he added. (ANI)
