Pak female mobile users bugged by rise in wrong callsFebruary 9th, 2009 - 4:56 pm ICT by ANI
Islamabad, Feb 9 (ANI): Female mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan have been increasingly complaining of a rise in instances of getting wrong calls from unknown numbers for the last few months.
Many women revealed that they even got wrong calls on their phones within hours after the activation of their new SIMs.
When I activated my new SIM and no one even my close friends were aware of my new number, I started receiving wrong calls from unknown numbers, the News quoted Neelma Kayani, a student at a local university operating in Blue Area, as saying.
I just want to know how any one could be able to get my mobile phone number when I had not informed any one about it, she said.
The female subscribers also said that surprisingly unknown persons making wrong calls often had the exact name on which any SIM was registered with the respective cellular company.
Although many think that girls should not pick up unknown phone calls to avoid awkward situations, the women disagreed with and asked for a more realistic solution to the problem.
Its not a die hard rule that one always gets a call from a known number. There are many instances when important calls from family or friends are expected and one needs to attend those calls, said Samina Khan, a university student.
Another student said that despite of not picking up unknown calls, the calls continued from freaks that find it amusing to tease.
They argued that the issue needed to be raised and brought under the scope of PTA as the name and number of the subscriber was not supposed to be disclosed to any one.
The subscribers also said that there had been an increase in obnoxious calls soon after the introduction of call block services by some of the cellular companies.
However, an official of a local cellular company claimed that no one could continue to tease any one from unknown number.
Any such number that is used to make obnoxious calls can be blocked within no time, but the subscribers must inform the respective officials about it, he said.
Although talks are on to adopt the policy to restrict unauthorised issuance of SIMs, but this issue may need some more effective and practical steps to be fully eliminated.
Also, mobile phone manufacturers are offering some kind of solution to this problem through some features that could enable users to block any un-wanted cell numbers. (ANI)
