Pak, Afghanistan and NATO military chiefs review security situation in tribal areas
December 30th, 2009 - 5:43 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Kabul, Dec. 30 (ANI): Senior military representatives of Afghanistan, Pakistan and NATO forces held a tripartite meeting in Kabul on Tuesday to review the security situation on the Pak-Afghan border.
Pakistani Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Afghanistan’s army chief Bismullah Khan and General Stanley A McChrystal, Commander International Security Assistance Forces, Afghanistan discussed measures to improve the effectiveness of ongoing operations on the Pak-Afghan border, The Nation reports.
The participants showed satisfaction over the existing level of cooperation.
According to sources, Pakistan, Afghanistan and NATO stressed in the meeting that in order to eliminate terrorists, intelligence sharing must be made more effective.
Pakistan insisted that check posts of allied forces and Afghan National Army should be enhanced at Afghan border.
Referring to the recent incidents of firing inside the Pakistani border, Kayani said that Pakistan’s sovereignty should be respected and if the allied troops have nay information of viable target inside Pakistan, then they ask Pakistani authorities to take action. (ANI)
