Oz teen girls drinking 30 pc more, having more sexual partners than ever
August 16th, 2009 - 3:42 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Melbourne, August 16 (ANI): More teenage girls are resorting to drinking, and many engaged in sex they regretted the morning after, reveals a new Australian survey.
A new snapshot of teenage sex lives found that the number of teen girls turning to the bottle had risen by 30 per cent since the last survey in 2002.
Associate Professor Anne Mitchell, the Australian Research Centre of Sexual Health and Society at La Trobe University, found that 39 per cent of Year 12 girls had sexual intercourse they wished they never had later.
“The number of unwanted sexual experiences has been creeping up on us,” the Couriermail quoted Mitchell as saying.
“But there is also a significant number of boys saying they have been having sex when they don’t want to.
“The reasons are usually they were drunk or there was pressure from friends. That classic stuff.
“They sometimes say afterward - because often at the time they say they enjoyed it - but afterward it’s unwanted.
“There’s something about the culture, about the drinking and peer pressure,” she added. (ANI)
