Oz teacher stood down for using sticky-tape as punishment
November 12th, 2010 - 6:57 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Nov 12 (ANI): A teacher in Australia has been stood down for allegedly sticking tapes over the mouths of children as punishment.
The Somerville teacher, who allegedly worked at O’Connor Primary School in the Goldfields town, is awaiting investigation by the Education Department.
The department’s executive director of professional standards and conduct, Paul O’Connor, said a complaint involving “several students and sticky tape” was being examined.
“As the allegations are very concerning, the teacher involved has been removed from teaching while inquiries are underway,” WA Today quoted O’Connor as saying.
The matter has been referred to the police, who are leading the investigation. The Corruption and Crime Commission has also been notified.
O’Connor said the school sent a letter to parents advising them that the incident was being investigated. (ANI)
