Oz PM should apologise to Haneef: Queensland PremierDecember 29th, 2008 - 12:51 pm ICT by ANI
Melbourne, Dec 29 (ANI): Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has called on the Australian Government to formally apologise to Indian born doctor Mohammed Haneef, who was wrongly implicated and detained in relation to a failed terrorist attacks in Glasgow and London in 2007.
It was the Kevin Rudd Governments duty to say sorry to an innocent man who had been though a traumatic experience, Bligh said.
It would appear this is an innocent man who has been treated wrongly and when a wrong has been done I don”t think there is any harm in making an apology for that, News.com.au quoted Bligh, as saying.
Bligh said it was up to the Rudd Government to apologise even though Dr Haneef had undergone his ordeal under the former Howard Government.
The Rudd Government had taken responsibility for the actions of previous Australian governments with its apology to indigenous Australians.
Obviously thats a matter for the Federal Government, but I think when people are treated unfairly its the reasonable thing to do, Bligh said. (ANI)
