Melbourne, Dec 23 (ANI): A man in Australia has been warned that he could face a jail term after he drunkenly kissed his estranged wife on her bottom.

According to the Mercury, the unemployed 48-year-old man, who has pleaded guilty to indecent assault in the Melbourne Magistrates Court, had been drinking when he visited his wife at her Hobart home in June 2009.

The man, who cannot be named, had visited her for a talk, and as she was lying down on her bed he asked her twice to turn over on to her stomach.

When she refused he forcibly rolled her over, straddled her, pulled down her pants and kissed her on the bottom as she screamed “No, no!”.

When the couple’s children ran into the room, the victim explained she had been tickled, but the man made a vulgar comment.

Defence lawyer Anne-Marie Kerr said her client had intended the kiss as an act of foreplay to lift the spirits of his depressed wife but admitted he had gone to far.

“He is extremely embarrassed,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.

She said the family environment was extremely complex and the couple’s 21-year marriage had since broken down.

Magistrate Olivia McTaggart said she would like to review similar cases before passing sentence.

“My initial thoughts are that a period of custody is an appropriate sentence but I need some time to think about that,” she stated.

The case has been adjourned until January 24. (ANI)
