Oz-Indian surgeon ‘Dr Death’ Jayant Patel seeking legal aid
October 15th, 2010 - 6:29 pm ICT by ANICanberra, Oct 15 (ANI): The jailed Indian-origin doctor in Australia, Jayant Patel, has reportedly sought legal aid to fund his appeal against his convictions.
According to News.com.au, the former Bundaberg surgeon applied for the legal aid at a brief hearing in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane on Friday.
Patel’s hearing was set to take place on November 12 but was postponed because of Patel’s financial troubles.
Sixty-year-old Patel was sentenced on July 1 to seven years of imprisonment for the manslaughter of three patients and causing grievous bodily harm to a fourth.
He lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence on the basis the verdicts were unreasonable and his sentence was manifestly excessive. (ANI)
