Melbourne, October 27 (ANI): The Indian-origin mother of a baby that survived after his pram toppled from a platform and was hit by a Melbourne train has spoken of the horrible moment.

Shweta Verma narrated the incident to A Current Affair when the train ploughed into the pram at 35km/h, shunting it 30m along the tracks.

Miraculously, her six-month old baby Saurish was left with just scratches to the left side of his face.

“For a fraction of a second maybe I just took my hands off,” the Herald Sun quoted her as telling Woman’s Day.

“When that thing happened it was like one of those things you never want to happen to anyone. In front of my eyes …

“I thought I’d lost my child, whom I love more than anyone or anything else - but then the next moment all I could think was how to find him and see how he was,” she added.

The 29-year-old mum continued: “The first feeling was, ‘My baby is alive!’ It was the most incredible moment I have ever experienced.

“I would equate it to having been in excruciating pain and shock, and suddenly being washed with an overwhelming feeling of relief.

“He was still crying, but he was with the person he was most familiar with. He seemed to know, ‘I’m OK now, I’m in my mother’s arms’,” she added. (ANI)
