Oz Air force chief terms filming of two cadets having sex as “absolutely abhorrent”
April 7th, 2011 - 3:21 pm ICT by ANICanberra, Apr.7 (ANI): Australia’s Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston has described the “so-called Skype incident” broadcasting a female cadet having sex with a fellow cadet as “absolutely abhorrent”.
Houston said the female cadet, who accused a fellow cadet of secretly filming a sexual encounter between them and broadcasting it to his friends, would be given full support adding that investigations into the matter were taken very seriously.
“We will provide the absolute best support to everybody involved in this, most particularly the young lady who’s obviously under a great deal of stress,” The Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.
Houston said he agreed with Defence Minister Stephen Smith that it was “very unfortunate and regrettable” that the girl was hauled before a disciplinary hearing yesterday.
Smith had earlier said the allegations were very serious and if proved were a gross betrayal of trust by male cadets.
The 18-year-old female defence cadet says she is now the target of a slur campaign.
The cadet, who has been named “Kate”, has told friends that she is being verbally abused with taunts of “slut” from fellow military university students.
Sources close to the woman said she had been verbally abused by fellow students for breaking the written code that forbids unauthorized contact with the media and was reportedly asked to apologize to fellow cadets for going public.
The woman, who is determined to continue her “dream” of an Air Force career, has been ordered not to speak to the media again.
Smith said he has asked Air Marshal Houston to inquire into allegations that Sthe woman had been belittled and criticized since making her allegations. (ANI)
