Over 50 killed in Nigeria clash
December 25th, 2011 - 12:15 am ICT by IANSLagos, Dec 24 (IANS) At least 50 rebels of the Boko Haram group and three Nigerian soldiers were killed in a clash in northwestern part of the country, Xinhua reported Saturday.
The army has destroyed a major stronghold of the Boko Haram group in Damaturu, killing about 50 insurgents, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika said. The fighting started Friday morning and continued till Saturday afternoon.
“We are facing challenges of terrorism, and it is good the force is able to address them, ” he told reporters.
