Ramanathapuram (Tamil Nadu), May 24 (IANS) The police Saturday seized gunny bags containing more than 1,000 detonators in a village near Rameswaram town in Tamil Nadu. The abandoned bags were spotted by locals in Ucchipuli village, about 650 km south of Chennai.
The police said as many as 1,152 detonators were found in the dumped bags and investigations are on.
No arrests have yet been made, though local people are being questioned.
The police have aired concern since some key Coast Guard and Naval installations are in the vicinity of the Ucchipuli village and in the Ramanathapuram district.
The entire east coast here is under stepped up security cover for the last one month.
