Only six Australians in running for Best Job in the World
March 3rd, 2009 - 1:05 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Melbourne, Mar 3 (ANI): Six Australians out of the total 34,684 applications from all over the world have made it to the list of top 50 successful candidates for Great Barrier Reefs caretakers job.
The six Australians selected are Chris Bray from Sydney, New South Wales, James Hill from Shute Harbour, Queensland, Sheree Marris Elwood from Victoria, Hailey Turner from Brisbane and David Whitehill from the Gold Coast.
In the quest to land the dream job, one of the applicants David Whitehall even pulled down his pants to reveal g-string bathers and the words Aussie bum emblazoned on his bottom while walking to the water saying Youd be out of your mind not to give this job to an Aussie bum.
The applicants include professional photographers, writers, a competitive swimmer and a Young Australian of The Year.
“Yesterday, a team of Tourism Queensland marketing and international staff along with a professional recruitment company made the very tough decisions necessary to cut the short-list to the Top 50,” News.com.au quoted Australias Tourism Minister Desley Boyle as saying.
“I understand it was a robust discussion but what it boiled down to was the motivation and professionalism of the applicants and their ”fit” with the job and Tourism Queensland, he added.
Almost 35,000 video applications were considered for the 150,000 dollars, six-month stint as the Hamilton Island caretaker.
Out of the top 11, ten applicants will be selected by Tourism Queensland and the 11th wild card applicant will be chosen by popular vote.
The top 11 will fly to Hamilton Island in early May to take part in the final selection process with the successful candidate announced on May 6. (ANI)
