One Delhi bombing accused sent to jail, warrant for others
January 7th, 2009 - 10:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) A city court Wednesday sent Mohammed Saif, an accused in the Sep 13 serial bombings here, to jail and issued production warrant for the other six accused - all of them Indian Mujahideen cadres.Saif, who was brought here Dec 25 after interrogation by the Gujarat and Rajasthan police for his alleged role in the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Jaipur last year, was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, who remanded him to judicial custody till Jan 21.
The court also sought presence of the other accused, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zia-Ur-Rehman, Mohammed Shakeel, Saquib Nissar, Mohammed Sadiq Sheikh and Quamuddin, before it Jan 21.
Meanwhile, the Special Cell of Delhi Police secured non-bailable warrants against two suspects, Mobin Kadir and Iqbal Bhatkal, who are absconding, for Jan 31.
The serial bombings in the capital claimed 26 lives.
The police had last month charged the accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Substance Act with various offences, including waging war against the state, murder and attempt to murder.
The accused, all natives of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from Delhi and other places following a shootout in Jamia Nagar in south Delhi in which two suspected terrorists, Atif Ameen and Sajid, and a police officer were killed six days after the blasts.
The police said 22 people were involved in carrying out the serial blasts in the capital.
