Washington, Dec 2 (DPA) US President Barack Obama will outline a new Afghanistan policy that will send an additional 30,000 US troops to Afghanistan, and start their withdrawal in July 2011, a senior administration official said.
In a pre-speech briefing to reporters, the official, on condition of anonymity, said the number of troops to be withdrawn in 2011 and thereafter would depend on circumstances on the ground.
The “surge” of 30,000 troops is expected to be completed by the summer of 2010, he said Tuesday.
