United Nations, Sep 22 (IANS) US President Barack Obama has reiterated his country’s pledge to do everything it could to ensure the success of Japan’s recovery from the triple disasters of earthquake, tsunami and nuclear leak.
Obama, who met Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Wednesday, said he knew that the top concern of the prime minister was “rebuilding Japan in the aftermath of the horrific tsunami that occurred”, Xinhua reported.
This was Obama and Noda’s first meeting since the latter took office early this month.
The US president also underlined the “extraordinary alliance” with Japan.
“As all of you are aware we have an extraordinary alliance with Japan,” said Obama. “They are one of our closest friend, our closest allies.”
“The bonds of friendship between our peoples are equally strong,” he further added.
Noda said that he regarded the Japan-US alliance as “key” to Japan’s foreign policy, and his belief “has become even more unwavering” after the disaster.
