Beijing, Nov. 17 (ANI): US President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao to resume talks with Tibetan leader in exile Dalai Lama, as all the minorities have equal human rights.
Addressing a joint press conference with Jintao after their one to one meeting this morning, Obama said he had also told Jintao about U.S. beliefs on human rights.
Obama also pledged a “positive, cooperative and comprehensive” relationship with China.
“We believe strong dialogue is important not only for the U.S. and China but for the rest of the world,” he said
Obama said he was pleased with China’s commitment on moving towards a more market oriented exchange rate.
“I was pleased to note the Chinese commitment … to move to a more market oriented exchange rate over time,” he said.
Speaking about the next month’s Copenhagen climate talks, Obma said the United States and China are looking for a comprehensive deal the summit that will “rally the world.”
Obama says the goal at the Copenhagen meeting should be an agreement that has “immediate operational affect,” not just a political declaration. On Monday, Obama has recognized that it would be impossible to reach a fully internationally legally binding climate agreement in Copenhagen next month as very little time is left for that. (ANI)
