London, May 18 (IANS) An NRI teacher suspected of child abuse slipped out of police captivity and threw himself in front of a train. Savraj Powar, 43, was arrested at his home Tuesday on suspicion of a “wide range of offences” involving girls at Lampton School in Hounslow, a west London suburb with a large population of ethnic Indians.
But while police were searching the house he ran to his car and drove off. His body was found later at Osterley Underground station.
Powar was suspended from the secondary school for “inappropriate conduct” and earlier this year was found in a car park with five knife wounds, which may have been self-inflicted, the Times reported.
The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which said that it would be directing and controlling the police investigation. An inquest was opened and adjourned at Fulham Coroner’s Court.
Local media said the father of two shared an impressive gated home with his wife and family in affluent Osterley.
