Now, green sneakers made of organic cotton, natural rubberMay 29th, 2008 - 4:29 pm ICT by admin
Washington, May 29 (ANI): Veja Sneakers have designed organic cotton shoes, whose soles are made of natural rubber sourced from the Amazon rainforest.
The Triple Bottom Line shoe is being regarded as a perfect example of how commercial activities may help boost both social and environmental sustainability at the same time.
Since Amazonians can make a livable wage by harvesting goods from the forest, they are much less likely to sell the entire trees for a one-time profit.
That is why Veja purchases their rubber from cooperatives of rubber tappers a.k.a. seringuieros, reports the Environmental News Network. (ANI)
