Now, Avatar treatment for job interviews!
August 14th, 2010 - 3:10 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Aug 14 (ANI): The epic science fiction film ‘Avatar’ is an inspiration for a new innovative method of interviewing job applicants.
Applicants are tested with immersive virtual simulations created with the same technology as used in the movie.
“In 15 minutes, we can assess a candidate’s problem-solving skills, personality and situational judgment,” News.com.au quoted Kim Macdonald, managing director of PreVisor which creates pre-employment tests for companies, as saying.
“We’ve simulated a bank teller job with the same equipment as was used for Avatar,” Macdonald said.
“It’s a suit you put on and we’ve had a person walk into a bank branch and behave like a customer while recording everything the teller does, right down to the way their fingers move and their facial expressions.
“We’ve then transferred that to a 3D film which candidates watch. The candidate is presented with questions from a customer and a series of scenarios and has to work out the best answer,” she added.
She also said that PreVisor has made industry-specific 3D simulations to screen candidates in the banking, retail, public service and military sectors.
The new method replaces standardised psychometric tests, which have been used by recruiters for decades to measure various traits in job applicants. (ANI)
