Now, a museum for army slogans in China
June 11th, 2011 - 11:04 am ICT by IANSBeijing, June 11 (IANS) A new museum has opened in China that would exhibit over 200 slogans believed to have been written in the 1920s by Mao Zedong, the father of the People’s Republic of China.
The museum in Hunan province - covering 14,000 square metres - would exhibit 234 slogans, Xinhua reports.
It is located in the sparsely-populated Yanling county, west of the Jinggang mountains that was an important base for the Red Army in its early stages, said Zhong Dingjun, director of the county’s cultural relics bureau.
Another 105 slogans - in the form of cartoons, paintings and couplets - can be seen on the walls of old houses in the county.
Experts believe many of the slogans were written by Mao Zedong, and were about politics, military and economic policies at the time.
“The slogans are of great value for studying the history of the Communist Party of China and the Red Army,” Zhong said.
Jinggang mountains are known as the birthplace of the Red Army and the cradle of the Chinese revolution where the communist party set up its first revolutionary base.
The People’s Liberation Army that was founded in August 1927 were then known as the Chinese Red Army.
