Nobel laureate Yunus gets bail in food adulteration case
January 27th, 2011 - 8:50 pm ICT by IANSDhaka, Jan 27 (IANS) A court in the Bangladesh capital Thursday granted bail to Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus in a case where yogurt produced by a company of which he is the chairman was found to be adulterated. The food court of the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) also exempted him from personally appearing after his lawyer, Sara Hossain, submitted a plea in the presence of Yunus, the chairman of Grameen Danone Foods Limited.
Food Inspector Kamrul Islam filed the complaint after the DCC found out that Shakti Doi, a product of Grameen Danone Foods, was adulterated.
Hossain said the complaint made Yunus an accused in the case and he was termed the owner of the company.
“He is not the owner but the chairman of Grameen Danone Foods Limited. He does not have any relation with its overall management,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.
