No evidence of al-Zawahiri’s death or injury: PakistanAugust 2nd, 2008 - 5:05 pm ICT by IANS
Islamabad, Aug 2 (Xinhua) Pakistan Saturday said there was no evidence or information on death or wounding of Al Qaeda’s No.2 leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. The evidence is not available on the Al Qaeda leader’s death or injury in a suspected US strike, Dawn News TV channel quoted the spokesman, Athar Abbas, as saying.
A US media report claimed that al-Zawahiri had been critically injured, and might be possibly dead, in a suspected US missile strike in northwestern Pakistan Monday.
The suspected US missile strike hit a madrassa near Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal agency on the Afghan border, killing six people, possibly including a top Al Qaeda bomb-making expert.
Reports said the US authorities have said that there were no information that al-Zawahiri was present during Monday’s strike, or that he was injured.
