No deal yet with Beckham: AC Milan
March 7th, 2009 - 4:18 pm ICT by IANSRome, March 7 (DPA) AC Milan have refused to confirm reports that a deal has been reached with Los Angeles Galaxy to extend the loan contract of England football star David Beckham.
“We are continuing the negotiation and we are heading in the right direction but Beckham remains at Milan is not yet official,” the ANSA news agency quoted club vice president Adriano Galliani as saying.
“If there is an agreement, we can sign it even in two days from now. But there are many chances that he will remain. The important thing is that he keeps playing with Milan’s jersey. When we sign the contract is not important.”
Earlier Friday, the BBC and Sky Sports both reported that a “timeshare” deal had been agreed, meaning Beckham, 33, will play for Milan until the end of the season, then rejoin the Los Angeles Galaxy before moving to Milan again at the end of the year.
Beckham originally joined Milan in January on loan until March 9 to keep fit during the Major League Soccer off-season. He has a MLS contract until 2012.
A salary cut is believed to part of the agreement to ensure the move goes ahead and, according to the BBC, the only issue that has yet to be settled is Beckham’s position at the end of next season.
La Repubblica also confirmed the British media reports that Beckham will play for Milan until the end of the Serie A season, May 31.
