Dhaka, Dec 13 (IANS) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday said her government would never compromise on the country’s security and sovereignty.
“We believe in peace and peaceful coexistence with all. We also want peaceful solution to all disputed issues,” she was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“The crux of our foreign policy is ‘friendship to all, malice to none’. But we would never compromise on the question of national security and sovereignty. We have brought independence and we would advance by keeping our head high,” Hasina said.
The prime minister said her government was determined to establish Bangladesh as a peaceful country in South Asia by rooting out all forms of terrorism.
Reiterating her government’s commitment to making the armed forces modern, Hasina said the government would do whatever was necessary.
“As a developing nation, Bangladesh has financial constraints. Despite that, our government is sincerely considering the requirement of our armed forces, keeping in mind the necessity of having modern and strong armed forces,” she said.
