Nevada (US), July 1 (ANI): Religious statesman Zed has blamed Forbes list “World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” of unevenness.
In a statement in Nevada (USA) today, Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, asked Forbes either to alter the criteria and methodology of selection in order to be more inclusive or change the name of the annual list to “USA’s Most Powerful Celebrities”.
Rajan Zed further said that although it claimed to be a “world” list, about 85 per cent of celebrities included in it were from USA. Other 15 percent celebrities listed were from roughly nine countries out of total about 194.
So this “World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” list appeared to be telling us that about 185 countries, including most populated countries like China and India, somehow lacked in “powerful” celebrities, Zed argued.
According to the list, which came out on June 28, about 85 world’s powerful celebrities were from USA, followed by five from United Kingdom, two each from Canada and Australia, and one each from Ireland, Switzerland, Portugal, Philippines, Russia, and Brazil. Forbes’ defines this list as “annual ranking of the world’s ultra-famous” and a “measure of power based on money and fame”.
Media queen Oprah Winfrey at number one is followed in descending order by Beyonce Knowles, James Cameron, Lady Gaga, Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, U2, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Madonna. Television actress Mariska Hargitay is last in the list at number 100. (ANI)
