New Zealand police issue photo of Indian-origin taxi driver’s suspected killer
February 6th, 2010 - 12:22 pm ICT by ANIAuckland, Feb 6(ANI): New Zealand Police have released images of a man, whom they believe could be the killer of Indian-origin taxi driver Hiren Mohini.
The image has been retrieved from a closed-circuit TV footage, which shows a man walking along Queen St shortly before Mohini collected his last passenger near SkyCity at 1.12am on last Sunday.
Mohini, a 39-year-old Mount Roskill resident, died on an ambulance stretcher minutes after being stabbed repeatedly by a customer for the sake of a 15.20 dollar fare, in what police described as a frenzied attack.
Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones said the man in the footage appears to be carrying a bag similar to one found at a property near the murder scene on Monday night.
“This bag has blood on it, was found in the neighbourhood and it’s possible that the man pictured was carrying it,” The New Zealand Herald quoted Jones, as saying.
Detectives are also awaiting the results of DNA tests to discover whether the blood on the bag belongs to Mohini or his killer.
Jones further said that police wanted to hear from witnesses who might have seen anyone with the bag before getting into the taxi.
Earlier, witnesses had claimed that a young male was seen running towards Esplanade Road immediately after the crash.
According to police, the man they are seeking is described as a slim-built, dark-skinned male in his mid to late twenties with long, greasy hair to the back of his neck.
He was wearing a long-sleeved button-up shirt, dark denim jeans and black leather shoes and was carrying a black bag with a strap. (ANI)
