Police have already set up barricades at the Times Square where more than one million revelers are expected to gather to watch the ball drop Saturday night.
New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said there are no credible threats for Dec 31, adding that over 1,500 officers will hit the streets around Times Square Saturday night.
In addition, no alcohol, large bags or backpacks will be allowed at the ball drop, and those who leave their spot once the celebration starts will not be allowed back inside the area, Xinhua reported Thursday.
A time ball is lowered or dropped from the flagpole of the Times Square on every New Year’s Eve.
