New York, Mar 18 (ANI): With the indictment of 31 members allegedly involved in oxycodone drug trafficking, the New York prosecutors have claimed that a million dollar a year oxycodone-trafficking business that was being operated from a Lickety Split ice cream truck on Staten Island has been busted.

According to prosecutors, the drug was being sold to adults in several ways, but most often from an ice cream truck for 20 dollars a pill, the New York Daily News reports.

It has been reported that adults lined up for their painkillers - a generic version of the powerful and highly addictive OxyContin narcotic pain reliever, after kids were through with their treats.

“Oh no! My kids bought ice cream every day last summer. It’s horrible, scary, that they were moving drugs. This is a close-knit community. We never suspected,” said Michelle Levy, 40, the mom of two kids, who were regular Lickety Split customers.

Louis Scala, Nancy Wilkins and Joseph Zaffuto are suspected of running the drug trafficking ring.

According to officials, Scala and Zaffuto got hundreds of blank prescriptions from co-defendant Nancy Wilkins, 40, the office manager for an unsuspecting Manhattan orthopedic surgeon.

“They knew who in the neighborhood was either an addict, already addicted to Oxycodone, or was in desperate financial straits,” said Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan. (ANI)
