New railway line threatens future of ancient Achaeminid capital

The railway route will pass through the Marvdasht Gorge, which is located between Mount Hossein and Mount Rahmat.

The railway embankment had originally been constructed at a distance of about 350 meters from Naqsh-e Rustam in the autumn of 2006. The magnificent ruins of Persepolis lie at the foot of Mt. Rahmat.
