London, Jan 6 (ANI): New photos of Barack Obama’s Oval Office show how he has changed the room after occupying the most powerful office in the world almost a year ago.
Metal gadgets and American Indian pottery have taken the place of Bush’s decorative china.
Martin Luther King Jr’s bust and a framed programmed from the 1963 March on Washington adorn the walls.
He keeps a wooden penholder gifted to him by Gordon Brown on his desk.
The penholder has been crafter out of the wood from HMS Gannet, sister ship to British naval vessel the Resolute, from which the desk of the US President has been chiselled.
“This office, I think, reminds you of what’s at stake, how many hopes and dreams are placed in what goes on here at the White House,” the Telegraph quoted Obama, as telling Oprah Winfrey in a recent interview.
The table behind his desk is full of family photographs, which Obama says remind him “why I’m doing what I’m doing.”
Artwork and ornaments from the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Museum of American History’s patent are lined on the bookcases; even models for Samuel Morse’s 1849 telegraph register are present.
A bowl of apples is placed on the coffee table and a bowl of M&Ms for youngvisitors.
However, some things have not been changed. These include a sculpture by Frederic Remington “The Bronco Buster” and paintings of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
Some other painting have been returned, including Norman Rockwell’s “Statue of Liberty” and Childe Hassam’s “The Avenue in the Rain,” an impressionist view of New York’s Fifth Avenue. (ANI)
