New Pakistani Kashmir president meets Kayani
September 6th, 2011 - 5:30 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Sep 6 (IANS) Pakistani Kashmir President Sardar Yaqoob Khan met army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and discussed various issues, including the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) between Indian and Pakistani Kashmir, a media report said Tuesday.
The status of relief and rehabilitation efforts for the 2005 earthquake victims and the army’s contribution in the process was also discussed at the meeting at the general headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi Monday, the Urdu daily Jang reported.
Gen Kayani assured the Pakistan-administered Kashmir’s president of the army’s continuing support in relief efforts as well as in the further development of Pakistani Kashmir.
Yaqoob Khan raised the recent instances of firing across the LoC from the Indian side and condoled the death of three Pakistani soldiers in the incidents.
This was the first meeting of Yaqoob Khan with Gen Kayani after he was sworn in as the eighth president of Pakistani Kashmir Aug 25.
The 7.6 intensity Aug 8, 2005, earthquake, epicentred near Pakistani Kashmir’s capital Muzaffarabad, had devastated large swathes of the province as well as the adjoining Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The toll was estimated at at least 75,000.
