Kuala Lumpur, Dec 17 (ANI): The newly-appointed Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) President G. Palanivel would reportedly hold a meeting with his central working committee members next week to discuss issues affecting the Indian community.
The Star quoted Palanivel as saying that the discussions would concentrate on dealing with issues like uniting the Indians, bringing in more professionals into the party and getting closer to the grassroots, including listening to the views of MPs and state assemblymen from the opposition.
He also said that the meeting, which is scheduled to be held on December 23, would be a first of its kind, in which he intends to work with veteran party members and also those who had left the party.
The discussions would also cover the issue of new branches to ensure that members are registered local voters in accordance with the vote box, he added.
“This will make us more effective, focused and give us more negotiating power.
The CWC is the most powerful body in the MIC. My duty is to listen to them, their views,” the paper quoted him, as saying.
Palanivel had taken over as the new MIC President earlier this month following S. Samy Vellu’s resignation, who led the party for over 31 years. (ANI)
