New Brit dads ’scared of taking paternity leave’ over career damage fears
March 28th, 2011 - 7:01 pm ICT by ANILondon, March 28 (ANI): A research has shown that new fathers in the UK are too frightened of damaging their career or losing their job to take full paternity leave.
New rules come in next week, allowing fathers to take up to six months off. But while 80 per cent welcome the change, only 59 per cent would take it up, according to the research conducted by uSwitch.com.
From April 3, new fathers can take the extra paternity leave if their partner returns to work, compared with the two weeks currently allowed, reports the Daily Express.
Most men would be fine about a colleague taking six months off, but 16 percent wouldn’t like picking up the extra work and 17 percent object as they are not parents.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said another reason men did not take paternity leave was the money they would lose. (ANI)
